Right On, Emmer! Tax Free Tipping!

Category: Tom Emmer

by Dave Mindeman

Hey, I agree with Tom Emmer. Tips should be tax free. Absolutely.

On the other hand, it needs to be off-set. We still do have a budget deficit. Now Emmer's campaign contends it will cost the state about $17 million. In the big scheme of things that is not a lot of money...and it also points out that Emmer's original assertion about $100,000 servers is pretty much bogus material.

However, tax-free tips is certainly possible. And it would be even more possible with only a slight increase in the tax rate for wealthy Minnesotans.

In fact, if you took the 49 CEO's in Minnesota making $1 million or more per year and increased their income tax by just 1%, you would get $2.5 million in return -- 49 people could cover 1/7 of the taxes for every waiter and waitress in the entire state of Minnesota.

The Emmer backtracking continues and the issue continues....and Emmer is still explaining. And you remember what they say about a politician who is doing the explaining....... (shhh, he's losing.)
