This quote from the debate on the failed override bothers me.
Take a look at this,,,
Rep. Tony Cornish (R-Cornish) - "Nobody is going to make me feel shame today no matter how many times you mention 'God.' Don't pull the Bible out any damn time it's convenient. Pull it out when we talk about abortion or gay rights. I went to church yesterday, too. Just because I vote against the override, doesn't mean I'm any less a Christian."
Rep. Cornish, are you saying that the Bible has no relevance when it comes to a discussion of the poor? Are you telling us that your Bible thumping regarding condemnation of gays and fixation on abortion is the only "proper" (ugh!) use of that Book?
Nobody wants you to feel any shame. Nobody is saying you are less of a Christian regarding how you vote.
Minnesota can only hope for one thing from you. That you vote in the best interest of this states' citizens.
If you think that cutting off the health and welfare of the poorest members of this society is proper, then stand with your conscience.
If you think that helping the poor is not a message that your Holy Book discusses, then stand with your belief.
Personally, I would have a tough time standing with money interests versus the needs of the poor.
But then maybe my faith is just not strong enough. Obviously Rep. Cornish knows the true difference between right and wrong.
Thanks for the clarification.
